Inca Roads (F.Zappa) Playalong with Malletkat by T.Dosdogru
hey,
hey,
Only gems in this video - enjoy !!!!
I spent a week here in Ireland and we had a great time. I worked with some hard working players and we really dug into the vibes. I learned a lot from hanging and working with these guys!
So off the Delaware. Another 21 players studying acoustic and electronic vibes! It's always pretty amazing to me to see all these players who love this instrument and want to work so hard on it.
Ireland was incredible! We worked 5 days, from morning until night on the instrument. All the players Played the vibe hang and did a concert last night. So this was a great week!
This is the First time This tune has every been played out and the first run thru for us .. the night was feeling good, so i pulled it out. I think i posted a lead sheet of this on the site back in 2009 ... its only 2 minutes long and was the only video that was taken at the gig .. via a cell phone so the Quality isnt that great .. but hey .. ya all get to see wat TMac does in southern oregon ....
Working up this piece really forced me to re-examine my technique, and improved it a lot. I started playing out of David's "Vibraphone Technique: dampening and pedaling" when it was first published. Still a phenomenal resource!
IF anyone remembers the little handheld "20Q" gadgets where you could answer 20 yes or no questions and it would almost ALWAYS accurately tell you what you were thinking of, I just found an old one. It's first guess for me thinking of Vibraphone was Piano (i was impressed), and then it guessed treadmill (much less impressed). More evidence that we are a rare breed!
Any ideas on what to study next? What to study?
I was thinking of spending some time on solo playing. Really working out chord melody stuff, lines, but from the aspect of playing solo.
I really believe that great players can all play solo. They can play something with no accompaniment, even if playing solo is not their forte. That means they know how it all works and how to work it on the instrument.
So that's one idea. Any others??
I played with German vibist Florian Poser a couple months ago and had a blast. Florian is a great player!
There's something about these two instruments. Listen carefully can anyone hear anything strange? (Barryk, you should be able to tell... that is if you're a true vibe geek!)
Hi All,
The August Good Vibes is coming up soon, August 5th. The Behn/Ken duo is featured with "The Dog Days"; a poetic inspiration from Joe Locke, "This Is Just To Say"; a track from David Friedman's new CD, "Silent Water/Before the Rain"; and a Steve Allen original played by Terry Gibbs, "I Used To Think I Was Crazy." And much more.
Hope you can listen in!
