The Pleasant Beggar - tune reharm/ H1CH

This is a tune by Russ Barenberg in the style of traditional Quebecois folk music. I arranged the tune as a chord melody in a semi-jazz style with a few choice reharmonizations. A version of the head notated is attached. The solo is a little rough, but this is the basic idea of what I'm going for. Jazz arrangements/reharms of traditional tunes.

My Frame (V5) - Damping Adjustment

The damper bar can be set very extensively and sensitively:

* The damping sensitivity is adjusted by the adjustable pedal lever.

* The distribution of the damping effect along the beam is realized by adjusting the two traction straps

* A special feature is the precise adjustment of the parallelism of the damper bar by adjusting the force application points of the traction straps as shown in the video.

'Verwirrspiel' for Vibraphone, Marimba and Cajon (comp. Franz Bauer)

Hi everyone at vibesworkshop.com! I'd like to announce the publishing of my new Trio 'Verwirrspiel' ('Confusion') for marimba, vibraphone and percussion (cajon+cymbals).

It's a piece, i've been working on quite a while. The sound of marimba and vibes combined with cajon an cymbals is very inspiring to me. In addition, I have always been interested in rhythmic 'knots' and their resolution, as you can clearly hear in this piece. ;-)

The Ballad of the Sad Young Men

The Ballad of the Sad Young Men" - a great ballad composed in 1959 by Tommy Wolf with lyrics by Fran Landesman. I was listening to Keith Jarrett and the trio on the plane home today and they play this song beautifully. It has been one of my favorites but I hadn't really checked it out. A beautiful song with a great melody and superb lyrics.

Good Vibes November 2019

Time

Putting a radio show together turns out not to be so simple. There’s the tempo of each tune to consider, like the fast paced “Yardbird Suite” (Gibbs) and “Alice’s Journey,” (Gillece) and the slow pace of “Stargazer” (Fisher) and “Dusk,” (Rossy). Mid-tempo tunes like “My One and Only,” (Redd) and “Frankie and Johnny” (Wolf) help weave everything together. There should be variety among the composers. Jazz icons like Ellington and Charlie Parker share a spotlight with the newer kids in the flock, (Mancini).

Cali 2 Cali- Fundraiser to build studio in Cali, Colombia

Hey my fellow vibes players,

I'd like to share with you an indiegogo campaign I am running to raise money to build a recording studio in Cali, Colombia. This studio would be built at the residence of Diego Obregón, an important Colombian marimba player. I was introduced to him by Edmar Castañeda, and I had a chance to study with Obregón last August while I was in Colombia. I will be going to Colombia in January of 2020 and spending two months there, studying and collaborating with Obregón and other Colombian musicians.

Learning Logic

Recently I had the opportunity to learn to use Logic Pro X. If you are like me and haven't dived deep into the world of music software programs and MIDI, it's definitely a lot to learn, but could be worth it! One of the aspects that made this program most useful for me as I began was the ability to import an mp3 track and change the bpm to match the project tempo, meaning I could import a song to learn, slow it down to play along, then speed it up little by little without losing the quality.

La Fougue des Fées - Carolyn Stallard

Last month I was talking to Tony about non-jazz music on vibes. I listen to a lot of traditional Canadian folk music, especially Québécois and Acadian tunes, so I decided to transcribe one for vibes. Here is an Acadian piece called La Fougue des Fées ("the passion of the fairies") by the band Vishtèn, from Prince Edward Island in Canada. This was sometimes hard to figure out the best sticking and which ornamentation to keep, but it was a lot of fun! I hope to learn another one soon :)
