OK. UPON DIM'S REQUEST, THE FILE ON THIS POST IS NOW TAKE 2, WITH MORE DYNAMICS. TAKE 1 IS STILL THERE BELOW AS ATTACHMENT IF YOU WANT TO COMPARE. NOW MY SHOULDERS HURT: ARE YOU HAPPY DIM? :o) SO "TAKE 2"! ;-)

TEXT RELATED TO TAKE 1 - POSTED YESTERDAY:

This dampening etude is dedicated to David. It's a simple melody from an old classic. As simple as its original by young Judy Garland. But when there's David Friedman behind, supporting, encouraging, inspiring, it can become the most fun dampening exercice you'll ever get to work on! Thank you David! :o)
- M
ps: sorry Maestro, the bridge would still need some practice... :o)

Yes Marie, well done !
I think that - IMHO - with this work, you come into the most important thing about dampening that is, maybe more than dampening the notes to avoid resonance and confusion, it's THE great way to sculpt a phrasing ! One can hear that yet in your playing, wether you doing it in conscience or not ...
Keep on Marie ! That's the way !

Dim, you mean redo it with more nuances? That is on the bridge or on the whole tune?

just put some cressendos and accents to your melody....that helps?

Take 2 is now replacing take 1 on this post. Hope you like it better. :o)

you really want to hear 1 sentence ?
:-)

No, serious.

I'm currently doing
- etude 5 from friedman, yesterday for the 1th time I was satisfied with the way I played. But too slow, so I'm working on that now.
- Fur Elise by Beethoven. (My wife is going to be soooo tired of it....:-) )
- A simple thing(let's call it combination of notes) I came across while improvising, which I really should record I think.
- a tune for someones birthday.

I'm going to wait a while with that rainbow. :-)

great!

i think it's so great to just practice a melody. something i don't do enough but teach a lot!!
i love listening to what you're working on.

David Friedman Wed, 05/23/2012 - 02:01

Fantastic work Marie. Now....Are you ready for the ultimate challenge? Yes? Ok. Play the whole bridge with the pedal DOWN, dampening everything. Can't wait to hear it!

Now I'm a bit confused: I did work the whole tune pedal down. There might be two explanations to your perception: either I did use the pedal subconsciously, or it gives the impression I did because the bridge is not fluid enough. I listened again and still can't hear or remember using the pedal.

The truth is I first thought I could never do it! Those alternate notes that gives you no chance but to dampen with the same stick with which you hit the bar were nearly unfeasable! It seems that Take 2 is 'less bad' than Take 1, but would def. need some more practice! :o)

Maybe you used the pedal unconsciously. That's the only reason I can think of, because the notes were separated and there was no ringing. Do you feel like trying it again, only the bridge, slowly? I'll listen very carefully, I promise.

i don´t know the song too well, specially the not the bridge but i think there´s 1 bar missing after your 3rd bar otherwise your bridge would have 7 bars that would be strange on such a common tune :) ...david help us out please!!!

the dampening is cool...did you put a stone on the pedal this time :) ?

I counted, and yes, it looks like "bar 4" is missing... and in fact I did the same mistake in all my takes! Ha!... Ok. I'll think about it but can't promise you to redo a full take 3! (Jeez...) :o)

I really enjoyed it Marie! Nice cressendos there!
Great job!
