My student Pablo was asking about writing a piece with one not as the melody.

So I recommended he write down a bunch of chords with B (his note for the melody, trying to use chords with B as an upper partial as well as a third or fifth.

I figured I'd quickly try and bang out my own version. So here it is. gave myself a couple tries and about 10 minutes.

It's from back in the day! I actually have someone helping me find bad pages missing files and then I'm trying to fix them. Here's the etude.

Someone should try and play it and post it. It's not easy.

You need to know your scales and each scale or mode should have a sound you recognize.

Study it hard so you can recognize these scales.

Download this. Put it on your phone like a CD.

Play the "album", set it to shuffle. Play a note, stop it. Find it on your instrument. Eventually You'll be able to let it play and follow it. It's super great ear training.

Just do it, 5-10 minutes a day. After a while, 5 is plenty.

Don't go fishing for the write note. Use your ears if you play a wrong note. Sing you're note if it's wrong and then sing the other note.

Don't waste a lot of time thinking,'use the force'.
