Forum Topic: Why it is hard to sight-read on mallet instruments...
I did a session the other day where I had to double a very specific part. It seemed like an easy pattern, but it changed in subtle ways over time. I was presented with 2 charts: one was a straight printout of the part - no repeats, lots of funny 16ths notes & rests, 6-pages long. The other, a chord-chart that showed the form (AAB, etc.). Even though the musicians involved were experienced pros, nobody spent much time on the chart. This is a very common situation now, as so much music originates out of computer files.

Forum Topic: Vibraphone forums
When I started to collect information about 'everything vibraphone' I entered 'vibraphone forums' in Google and it gave me two www sites (this one and the vibes.net?). The second one seemed to be abandoned and this one looks alive but with the total number of posts and slow rate of posting it's not easy to see it at the first sight.
I'm also registered at other musical instrument forums like guitar, sax, etc. and there are thousands of posts on those sites. Everything is moving there with dozens of posts every day.

Forum Topic: What means chops to you?
I just had a talk with marie and we found that the word "chops" maybe can mean something different to all of us. So maybe to ask this question is a little late but maybe it´s good to see what most of you think...
to me chops means mostly the ability to play fast with sense.
what does chops mean to you?

Forum Topic: Choosing mallets in relation to size of hands and body
This forum is more of a question .. in relation to the qwest i am on currently to find a set of mallets that fit my hands ... ive noticed that the majority of the vibe players out there that have there own signature mallets have larger hands that i do. so here is question .. i like the sound that the joe locke series has and also the dave samuels/ fried man medhard mallets produce, but then here lies the problem .. but then i have a set of old good vibe david friedman mallets from 1985 that have the size of rattans, but do not produce the sound i am looking for ..

Forum Topic: Jazz Blogging Project!
Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted on the site, but I wanted to let you know about a project that i'm doing about jazz in New York. I’ll be in New York City from March 1st to the 15 to see jazz shows, talk to and interview musicians, and write about it on my blog. On my calendar are Kurt Rosenwinkel, Matt Wilson, Cedar Walton, Eddie Palmieri, the Heath Brothers, and more (but unfortunately no vibes players).
