I was practicing a few weeks ago and when reviewing some of my taping, I really liked this one for some reason. It is quite short so I decided to share it. it was practice with some different goals, most of which were accomplished.

This is my 'weapon of choice' at the moment. A Hungarian hammered dulcimer- the Cimbalom. I got it in February and have been practicing like nothing else!
If it interests you I have attached a chart of how it's tuned- it's all over the shop!
I'm planning to get good at improvising on it and start a manouche band...

Here's a clip of an old classic tune called "Sweet Lorraine" which has been recorded by such pianists Art Tatum, Teddy Wilson and Nat King Cole as well as sung by Frank Sinatra and many other vocalists.
The tune has quite a bit of changes including many extended dominants. There's some nice guide tone lines throughout the changes. I try to bring those out either in the left hand comping on in the line.
I love this lesson and he says 'It's Important to Sing'. I love when I hear my idols saying things that I believe, It means I'm on track!

Here's a version of an old classic played with a four to the bar feel reminiscent of such pianists as Dave McKenna, Teddy Wilson, Errol Garner and George Shearing. I have a lot of fun playing these kinds of tunes in this style where the left hand keeps the time and the right hand solos with rhythmic syncopation. There's a version of us doing Sweet Lorraine also in this style although it's a little slower.

I was thinking much about what would be appropriate to post for such a special event.
What came to my mind finally was the long tradition amongst Austrian jazz musicians interpreting Thelonious Monk, because of the great potential they see in his compositions.
So I wrapped one for you!
This video is in appreciation of a vibist who plays Monk exceptionally well and has dedicated part of his life to Monk. Although I fractured it badly, or should I say butchered, the intent is there to celebrate this man's (Tony) 50th birthday. Anyway I was rushed and didn't plan out very well what I was going to do. It should be noted that BIAB Real Tracks will not pedal bass on the head and also will not break the walking bass during the fours.

Here's an article which will be in the upcoming July issue of the Percussive Arts Society magazine Percussive Notes. The article is titled "The Healing" and details the recording session of Depth of Emotion which featured saxist Dave Liebman, drummer Mark Walker, bassist David Clark and myself on vibes, marimba and piano.
