i just want to buy a new set of microphones. i already got 2 small condenser´s for vibes or drum overhead the akb2000b which sound good so far. but i´m thinking about to buy a set of rode nt5 also small condenser. on the other hand i heared by various people (like randy from the site) he records vibes with 2 large capsule condensers like the rode nt1. i already got one rode n1 but the old modell. but since they are cheap like 180€ per micro i´m thinking about buying 2 of them. so my question with my setup of mics what do you think would be better the rode nt5 small condenser or 2 rode nt1 large condensers.price would be almost the same...since i already got 2 small conders with my old akg´s i think about buying the rode nt1´s...any suggestions or tips are welcome. thank you!

What purpose do you want new mics for ? PA or recording ? (stage or studio)

OK. Large condensers mics are better, since noise isn't an issue in such situation.
Besides to buy NT1, I would save money each month and in one (or 2, or more) year(s) buy a very good couple of mics like Neuman. And maybe a very good preamp like spl gain station ...
Read Gary Burton's blog, he has the same Neuman mics since decades.

babu, thank you for your answer. i would love to have neumann but they far out of reach for my budget even in 2-3 years.at least the 2 large condensers would be too much. my dream would be have the neumann km184 stereo set.they are about 980€ so it could be a affordable dream someday but not two u87 or even two tlm103.

i think that the rode mics are very good for their price, i´m just not sure which one.

Tarik, Rode mics are very nice in their category. Now Neuman is 2 or 3 levels above, we are speaking about pro mics here, but if you look the quality, the balance quality/price is far much better with Neuman. If you buy a good pair of Neuman, it will be for your entire life, no need to buy another one anymore, at the end you'll save money. There is a lot of second hand TLM103 on the market, you could get a pair for about 1400/1600€ with suspensions, maybe less. This is what I did and I'm very happy with them. I own a pair of km184 too but for recording a vibe I would prefer TLM103 for the larger capsules.
I think The NT1 option is good, because they are cheap and you'll have mics for all purpose, including stage performance if needed.
But be sure (my experience tell me, same thing with all my friends) that one day you'll need, want, pro-quality mics. All you'll buy (except NT1, because they're cheap) of intermediate level, you'll sell, loosing money and finally loosing time.
Another very good option is AKG414 (pro quality too).

yes you are probably right. so i will wait and one day get my neumanns perhaps. since you got those mics, if you got the time why not post a short passage where we can hear the difference of the km184 and tlm103 on vibes. sure i don´t want to steal your time but i think it would be intresting to hear, not only for me.
