Good Vibes on the Radio, May 2018
I'm a little early to announce the May Good Vibes program - mark your calendars so you don't forget. The station loves to see the numbers of listeners go up and that helps keep the show on the air! May 6th at 8pE and May 9th 4pE, wwfm.org
I don't know how Emil Richards escaped my attention for so long, but here he is playing for the first time on Good Vibes (thanks to Steve Hobbs). It's his recording of a popular TV cartoon theme song that I'm sure most of you will recognize. The group Hudson makes its debut also, both of these in the Where Jazz Goes segment, with Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock." A listener recommended vocalist/songwriter Bob Dorough with vibes player Jack Hitchcock (also was a well-known trombonist), so they are also first-timers on GV. Lots of "often-timers" as well, including Ted Piltzecker with some social commentary written before its time, a few standards ("Donna Lee" and "Easy Living") and a "Ball of Fire" with the Jazz Jamaica All Stars and Orphy Johnson on vibes as part of the ensemble. That's the short list. Hope you can hear the full playlist on the first of the month.
