Jazz in Tel Aviv

I just found this on Youtube. Had no Idea it was recorded. This was a gig I did in Israel about 3 or 4 years ago. It was a tribute to a wonderful Israeli jazz composer, Stu Hacohen, who had died several years ago. Check out Theodosil Spassov on Kaval, a bulgarian flute he's made famous. It was basically a jam with a short rehearsal to check out a couple of heads. It's totally raw but everybody had a great time playing together.

Chega de Saudade by Gary Burton (ORTF Version 1971)

I know, the Chega solo by Gary has been watched a milion times... still I don't remember seeing this version on Youtube. I came to it thanks to Philppe Macé recent post from the site Ina.fr (the French TV Archives).

So far Vibesworkshop is not valid to post from ina.fr, so I can only give you the link here (unless Tony you can do something about it?): http://www.ina.fr/art-et-culture/musique/video/I09211845/gary-burton-ch…

This version is not live and was recorded on the ORTF studio on 31/08/71. Man Gary, just 40 years ago!!

TOTM - Blues - Blues with a Bridge

So with all the styles of blues there's one more I can think of. That's a blues with a bridge. Many times these are sort of AABA blues'. For instance it would be 2 choruses of a blues and then a bridge and then one more chorus of the blues. Listen to this exampleof the tune 'Unit 7'. Can you follow it.

Here is a version of Charlie Parker's 'Confirmation'. So it's a bird blues with a bridge. AABA. See what happens, 2 forms are combined to make a new form.

Piano vibe duet playing Kenny Baron's New York Attitude

This concert was taped in early August. The video seems a little fuzzy, but the audio is pretty clear. The tune is a lot of fun to play, and seems to be a lesser known one of Kenny Baron. We discovered it in a collection of his music we found in the public library!

Comping for piano can be tricky since the pianist is already comping with their left hand. I try to stay out of the way and just punctuate with some voicings and single line stuff.

Round Midnight - Gary Gibson

Here is a cool little story:
- NicoFar sent me a practice tape of him working on that tune,
- As usual I didn't really know the tune, so I started to discover it,
- We both chatted about the different versions,
- After a few ones, he sent me this one: wow!!
- I started a chat with Tarik,
- And sent it to him
- For once we had nothing to argue about: this is beautiful and perfect! :o)
- We even agreed on the fact... that we'd better share this gem will you all!

Enjoy! And... go Gary G!!!
