Easy commute into town yesterday morning for an early class at 9. Warming up on the classic composition "Nardis".
Clip of Chega De Saudade (by Antonio Carlos Jobim) from a local gig here in Haverhill, MA.
I had previously posted on this topic via a clip that demonstrated the concept on piano. I'm using the same Pentatonic scales in this clip from Saturday night's gig with Mark.
To view and download the Pentatonics being used for the improvisation, click on the link included in the clip's description. More clips from this night are up on my YT channel listed under Duo with Mark Carlsen. Other songs include: How Deep is the Ocean, Jitterbug Waltz, Topsy, Like Someone in Love, Triste, Ain't Misbehavin', Peace, There Will Never Be Another You, Chega De Saudade, How Insensitive.

Memorize it! Study it.
Aloha, This is Scale exercise concept i have been developing of the last year. The concept is to be able to " call upon" any part of the scale at any time.
concept of this idea is to start on the tonic of the scale. go up to the 7th degree and skip the repeated tonic and land on the 9th.. once you get to the 9th degree you descend down the scale in question to the 2nd degree and repeat the cycle ... ascending and descending til you have worked thru the entire scale ...
Enjoy
Aloha everyone ... today i am presenting a cool Art Tatum lick that i have been starting to use over ain't Misbehavin and other standards for tin pan alley ... The lick is definately inspired by Ed Saindon's record. on the sunnyside .. which really nails this style of playing in the vibes ..
Ed, i hope ive come close to presenting this in a solid manner.
enjoy
Trying to get playing again! Can't wait to go through this book. Thanks vibes workshop for motivating me :-) I don't think I got the dynamic (phrasing) just right – Mf a little too strong in the beginning.. Thanks for listening!
