"The Folks Who Live on the Hill" - a superb ballad with beautiful lyrics and a great melody. Written in 1937 with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Jerome Kern. Keeping it pretty simple here with two choruses close to the melody. Enjoying playing the melody more in the upper register with this vibraphone.
Are you guys aware of the work Bobby Hutcherson did with Andrew Hill. I always put Andrew Hill in with Charles Mingus and Duke in his approach to harmony. It's way more modern than Duke though but I think there are a lot of musicians that descend from Duke in many ways.
Just thought I'd mention it here, if you don't know of the Andrew Hill CDs with Bobby Hutcherson, check them out.

PURPOSE
The website was created to facilitate the ability to discover and listen to music scores for percussion utilizing electronics as accompaniment. On the website you will find a large searchable database of works that aims to connect the percussionists with the composers and publishers. (Currently 240 pieces and growing)

"'Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk - After 43 straight years of teaching at Berklee, I'm officially on a sabbatical for the upcoming Fall semester. My sabbatical project is the recording of videos that feature solo vibraphone techniques along with the application of improvisational concepts from my 4 volume series The Complete Guide To Improvisation. Some of the concepts in this clip include the application of Upper Structure Triads, the Symmetrical Diminished scale and the Pentatonic b2 scale.
I am honored to have been a part of this beautiful project.
"Deborah's Theme" by Ennio Morricone. A beautiful theme from the movie "Once Upon A Time In America". This is an arrangement that I wrote for my upcoming book Pedaling and Dampening for the Vibraphone. I loved the theme when I heard it and so many others of the great composer. The piece involves a variety of dampening techniques that will be covered in the book including slide dampening, hand dampening and pivot dampening. Much of the exercises, etudes and pieces are written and I just started to chip away at the text. Fun but challenging stuff.
