Roy Ayers Recommendations

Does anyone have any favorite Roy Ayers songs?

The World Vibes Congress is Jan. 2nd-3rd, 2021, and the Vibe Hang Afterparty (5:30 PM EST on Jan. 3rd) will begin by inducting Roy Ayers into the vibe hall of fame. Come join the hang. It's free and open to anyone, as are the rest of the Congress events.

To get the word out for the hang and the WVC in general, a few of us are planning to learn some Roy Ayers tunes and post them on social media. So let's start the hype train here.

Gracias! Que tengan unas muy felices fiestas.

Good Vibes January 2021

Time

Hey Everyone,
I hope you are all ready to enjoy the holidays, even if distant from our families and friends this year. It could be worse, right? Keeping each other healthy is what it's all about right now. We've got vaccines coming so that's a reason for optimism.

Carol(yn) of the (Pachel)bells

For the holiday vibe hang this past Sunday I arranged Pachelbel's Canon in D, Carol of the Bells, and a little bit of Jingle Bells for vibes and MalletKAT. Enjoy!

PS: If you haven't tuned in to the weekly vibe coffeehouse hangs on Zoom yet you should, they're fun! Every Sunday, 12 PM EST. Jan. 3rd will be an exception - instead of 12 PM, there will be a special coffeehouse hang at 5:30 PM EST as an "after-party" for the World Vibes Congress. See you there :)

Reducing Resonance

Today I put a bunch of styrofoam panels on my wall, then covered them with my usual hanging bedsheet setup. There is a noticeable difference in how much sound is resonating back - I was surprised!

If you don't want to spring for fancy noise reduction foam and are able to acquire some free styrofoam panels, I recommend hanging them up.

More tips I learned from vibraphonists: Make your space as non-flat and non-hard as possible. Rugs, blankets, pillows, full bookshelves, etc. all make a difference.

What Lessons Do You Want Me to Make?

Hey everyone!

I'm gearing up to produce a bunch of lessons in the next couple weeks that'll be posted throughout 2021. I'm going to continue some "How to Play Vibes Like" videos, I'm gonna do some on solo vibraphone arranging, and I'm gonna do some transcription analyses I think, along with some other miscellaneous videos. But is there anything anyone would like to suggest for lesson topics? Or any pianists I should cover in my "How to Play Vibes Like" series? Or any solos I should transcribe and analyze?

Thanks!
