New week, new challenges

We're starting the new week with a load of work ahead, unfortunatelly hardly any work this week is scheduled for production of the vibrahones themselves.
We're gonna spend a lot of time on finishing our pre-production glockenspiel which we made in conjunction with Fall Creek Marimbas. About 95% of the instrument is done, just a few things still to be produced.

I've designed the instrument such that all parts are machined in our magical CNC-machine in which we also produce the vibraphone bars. This reduces the labour to just assembling the glocks.

A Day of Good Vibes - Check it Out

I'm thinking about how to do a day online in August where maybe different vibe players do concerts all day online. I think we would need about 6 or 7 people, start at noon on a Sunday and go until 6 (Philly time). That should get most of us in there. Each of us would play about 45 mintutes.

Any ideas or takers? It would be the first online Day of Vibraphone!

Taking a Walk with David Friedman

I try to take walks every day, partly to listen to music and mostly because I'm out of shape and overweight!

I think I posted once before about this and I think posted about a Friedman CD. Hmmm, I came home today and wanted to post about listening to Rios on my walk.

Great walking music first of all. Sonically the sounds of the instruments are beautiful together. This made the walk fun.

The First Video I Ever did - Stride Vibes

Has anyone seen this up on the site? I couldn't find it but found it over at larrysimprovpage.com

This is the first video I ever did. I got a lot of notice for the washer and dryer in the background. I had no clue as to what I was doing. I was trying to start QDV's! Quick and Dirty Videos!! Where nothing mattered but the content! That's so funny now to me.

Vibes and Organ

I was practicing, and as it often happens, I played a few notes that sounded familiar, but I didn't know what it is. Then I recalled it was from the Cal Tjader Soul Sauce album. The song was "Somewhere in the Night".

I listened and played along with that version a few times and wanted to hear other versions. So, I did a search a found a couple vibes and organ versions.

Our First Classroom

I'm really excited because our first 'classroom' is up and running.

I love working on music and playing. I used to go to my mentor Steve Giordano's house once or twice a week and we'd play from 9 at night until 5 in the morning. Sometimes later. I loved driving home in morning while everyone was on there way to work, knowing that I had the opportunity to stay up all night and play and study music. That was worth a lot or money to me! That is the sacrifice of a steady income, which is a very difficult way to live.

Holidays

I'm sure it's no suprise to any of you that I'm not too cool with holidays, especially birthdays.

But now that I have all these friends and have to run this site, I decided to be cool. And as an exercise I thought I would thank everyone in Marie's birthday post this morning. Hopefully I didn't skip anyone!

The great thing about this birthday, is that I have hundreds of new friends and they're all vibes players! that's pretty cool.

So Thanks guys.

Band-in-a-Box 2009

I just got the update to Band-in-a-Box. First impression is that it is really cool (as if it wasn't already cool). As usual, you enter the chord changes and BIAB automagically generates an accompaniment of bass, drums, piano, guitar, strings, etc. With the update, instead of using MIDI instruments, there is an option for BIAB to extract pre-recorded audio of session musicians playing real instruments over certain changes.
