Rusty Burge (vb) performing Ida Spoon with Ted Nash (sx)

This clip is from a gig last January playing Ted's composition Ida Spoons which is based on Stella. The cameraman missed the head and part of Ted's solo which is a shame. Ted is composer/saxophonist with Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra directed by Wynton Marsalis....and plays his rear off! What a pleasure this night was.

My First Jazz Gig

My First Jazz Gig

So...I don't usually write blog entries, but I figured I'd share some insight from my first-ever jazz gig in the community last week. I know some of you are old pros at gigging, but for those who aren't, here is one example of what it might be like. Of course every gig is different, so remember this is just one experience. Hopefully there are more to come!

Favorite Published Jazz Vibe Arrangements?

Greetings everyone. Can folks on the forum recommend any tasty published jazz music arranged for vibes (i.e. either solo, duet, or small group)? I'm working hard at learning to voice my own 4-mallet chords, but in the meantime I really enjoy playing good arrangements.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Maybe there is already some good lists of published vibe music on this forum?

Astrud - Dimitris Angelakis & the Delaware Steel band (tour in Greece)

Hello,

So, Harvey was in Greece for a week to participate to 2012 ISME conference Thessaloniki before the workshop and we had great time. The delaware steel is really amazing. I remember when we were going to rehearse and I started to set up the vibes to play with them I just stopped and listen to them. It was awesome!!! Never heard a band like this before. I would like to thanks Harvey Price for giving me the opportunity to play with this great band. Below is the tune Astrud we played on the national conservatory of Thessaloniki (Greece) and it was a part of a workshop concert.

Cherry Juice?

The big band I play in has a very predictable director who essentially rotates tunes on a 3 year cycle. This year Cherry Juice (Thad Jones) is going to be played and Ii was looking to get a jump on the tune. Does anyone know where I could get access to the piano part or the score? Thanks for any help.
