Incorporating Brubeck Ideas into your Solo Vibe Practice and Performance

Hey Vibeworkshop,
Im currently getting ready for my recital and one of the pieces that I am playing on my recital is a reduction, I'm currently working on, of the ever popular Strange Meadow Lark by Dave Brubeck. As I study the piece and boil down the transcription to an honest reduction I really started to see the genius of Brubeck's solo playing. So today I would like to break down all the techniques and ideas he used while playing the melody of the tune and how we can incorporate those ideas to other standards and ballads.

Learning from Michael Jackson Independence

hey,
i just was asked to arrange some pop tunes for percussion ensemble. i tried to figure out a good marimba comping for billy jean by m. jackson. since we got only vibes, marimba and xylo as voices i need to put as much in it as possible. so i stumbled on this cheap sounding but very hard to play independence thing (at least for me)....on piano this would be so easy :)

would you like to play it fast for 4 minutes also on different chords? :)

Kevin Hart, "Deciding to Build the Field" By James Horner

Hey Everyone,
Kevin Hart put out a new video that I know you will enjoy, Kevin Hart (vibes) and the Vibe Tribe "live" in Peoria, Ill. They're playing a tune from the movie Field of Dreams composed by James Horner, at the Peoria River Front Jazz Concert Series. And nothing says summer like a baseball diamond amid the cornfields. It was filmed both in Peoria and at the actual movie location in Dyersville, Iowa.
Johnny Beckett on soprano sax
George Turner guitar
Mikel Combs bass
Tom Marko drums.
They have got to record this!

electriQuartet

Greetings VW!

I had some video from a recent gig with this group...am making progress with the electric setup, and wanted to share it with you all.

I had some guests join (kind of a Snarky Puppy type concert), also some great players in the band (Shane Theriot is lead guitarist with the band Hall & Oates & Live From Daryl's House, and is a monster jazz player too). Hope you will enjoy - there will be some more clips up in the future, so please subscribe on YouTube.
