Members of this wonderful community,
"Poinciana" - In the home music studio today playing the classic song from 1936. Two of my favorite versions are from great pianists Ahmad Jamal and Keith Jarrett.
Thanks Dana for putting this in the comments of part 1!
Now he is playing a xylophone. I'm sure it's a huge step to a vibraphone. The vibes are way hipper and way more complex than a xylophone! :-)
Who's playing vibes on this?
Hi All,
Fourth of July is coming up fast, and that means the July show is just before, on July 2. I'll play two different versions of "America," Mike Mainieri's from CD Crescent and Bob Masteller's recorded live at the Jazz Corner. I'm also paying my patriotic duty by playing the Modern Jazz Quartet and "The Watergate Blues," which they recorded on Echoes. I do hear the echo.
The first set is dedicated to the season. "Heat Wave," (Cal Tjader) "Summer Nights," (Bobby Hutcherson) and "Water Babies" (Joe Chambers).
Aimee Nolte has some great stuff on Youtube. I came across this lesson on Bill Evans' playing on Blue in Green. The "minimalist" piano style is really well-suited to the vibes for obvious reasons. I've attached a clip of me playing the intro.
It's beautiful. I'm in a Gary phase. Maybe it's because he's done. Very Sad.
