Good Vibes on the Radio, Update March 2018

Time

Hello Everyone,
The next Good Vibes will air on Sunday, March 4th at 8-10p eastern(wwfm.org) and Wednesday March, 7th at 4-6p eastern. Will you be listening?
Guitarist Mudnell Lowe died this past December and the first tune is in his memory, from Hendrik Meurkens' CD Mundell's Moods. Bryan Carrott and Behn Gillece complete the first set. Followed by Mike Freeman and James Shipp (with Anat Cohen). The second half hour features Steve Nelson, Christian Tamburr, Dana Sudborough, Lionel Hampton and Mike Mainieri. Quite a group!

Stefon lays down the funk

I was surprised that more vibes players don't know about this excellent Charlie Hunter album from 1998 called Return of the Candyman. It's a trio date with Stefon Harris on vibes, drums, and Charlie playing his 8-string guitar/bass instrument. I haven't heard everything Stefon has recorded, but so far I find this to be the funkiest.

This is their version of the Steve Miller Band hit "Fly Like An Eagle."

All the Young Guys Will Laugh! And It's not a Vibraphone.... However

It's a mallet instrument and all these old(er) people got together to make a group. I think it's pretty cool.

There are a lot of older people on the site who picked up the vibes later in life. That's amazing to me. There is one guy, Roger who lives in central PA, he works more than I do now.

"It Never Entered My Mind" by Rodgers and Hart

Beautiful ballad written in 1940 by Rodgers and Hart. Some chord progression changes from Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett.

The book addresses a variety of voicing concepts as applied to the II-7 V7 I Maj progression as well as standards including Autumn Leaves, Green Dolphin Street, Stella By Starlight.
