Hi all,
I don't usually post about my "live" radio broadcasts, but I'm excited about this one. XM Real Jazz (Satellite Radio - Channel 70 & 72) caught us on a really good night @ Dizzy's in NYC in late Jan. The results will be aired twice this weekend > Fri, March 12th at 8PM and Sun, March 14th at 4PM. We're playing music from my new CD, "For The Love OF You" (E1 Music).
I hope some of you can tune in!
The band consists of myself (vibes), Kenny Washington (vocals), Geoffrey Keezer (piano), George Mraz (bass) and Clarence Penn (drums).
I really enjoyed visitng Tony's workshop @ the University of the Arts this past weekend in
Philadelphia. I enjoyed what I heard and it was a pleasure meeting all of the vibists who attended. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed, but I liked the fact that everyone came to work, and were serious about learning.
Tony's making a great contribution to our instrument with www.vibesworkshop.com and now also with events such as the Philadelphia Weekend Workshop, which affords vibists the opportunity to meet and grow in real-time.
I just received a gift in the mail - a CD of Ed Saindon in concert @ the University of
New Hampshire, w/ Dave Liebman, Matt Wilson and David Clark. Beautiful concert, replete with
gorgeous originals("The Last Goodbye", "Hope", "The Healing") and re-imagings of standards
("Moon River", "Green Dolphin Street"). There's a solo/duet version of "Black Orpheus" which really shows how the grown-ups do it ... intense listening going on between Ed and
I'm at the vanderPlas Baileo factory outside of Amsterdam, hanging out with the one and only Nico vanderPlas. I arrived yesterday from London and went straight to the new facilities - which are rockin'! There is a big factory space on the 1st floor, where no less than 6 instruments (3, 3 1/2, & 4 oct) are in different stages of being built, as well as some new pick-up sysyems. Upstairs are the offices and showroom.
