Anyone ever heard of Woody Murray ? He's on Stevie Wonder's newest album.
Here is his discography:

Here is a YouTube clip from an Azar Lawrence track with no piano. Cool stuff!

The title "Into the See" was something Joe wrote to me in a text message recently. I am sure he meant to write "into the sea" as I was on an island when he sent it but I liked the typo so its now my title (Joe will probably hate it, sorry Joe).
After finishing the etude I realized that I must have been sub-consciously inspired from playing Behn's great etudes as there are many similarities in the format and even some style aspects. So, thanks Behn!
Here's my not so perfect version (guess I don't get the prize lol)

What do you think about this article?
Is this a new feature ?!?
Cuz I love it!
So, for over a month now, I have been addicted to Coltrane's solo on "Big Nick" from Ellington & Coltrane album. Every day, I have to get my "fix" and hear it at least 3 times in a row before moving on. Each listen killing me more than the last. I just HAVE to transcribe it. I want to know every note he plays, not so I can sound like Coltrane, but so I can study the relationship of the notes to the chords, the nuances of rhythm, phrasing, articulation, and emotional depth. Maybe through studying all that I can create similar "depths of emotional connection" with my listeners.
I am finally getting caught up on missed posts here at the workshop. Things became so busy in my life (thankfully) that I just couldn't devote the time to check things out. It got so bad that I logged in and there was over 6 pages of new posts! All the extra gigs along with rigorous practicing has resulted in my having daily pains in my forearm that I have been too busy to get checked out properly (shame on me). It hasn't been too bad while playing but at the end of a long day.....
Hi VWs,
Just got back from PASIC last night. It was a good trip. Made some new friends, saw some old, and had some good hangs. I was at the Xylosynth booth, helping Will Wernick out. He was displaying a new 5 octave model this year. As it turns out, it didn't sell at the show so I get to borrow it until February (yeeehaw :). I will be posting some videos with it in the coming weeks.
The workshop was, IMHO, a big success. I met several of the VW regulars in person along with several new people. Tony worked really hard to put the whole thing together. I am grateful for his work and the opportunity to be a part of it.
On Saturday, Tony gave a great presentation on solo vibe playing. Towards the end several of us gave solo vibe performances of the same songs. Man! Tony, Mike Pinto and Randy Sutin can really play. Of course you learn a lot hearing the different approaches to the same song.
I'm Baaack, back on the streets again.....(great Tower of Power tune).....
Hello All,
I am on vacation/visiting family in Greece right now. It's already been a week away from my vibes and I hate the feeling I get when I am not playing with other players OR practicing (blechh). The only good part of taking a long break is coming back to the instrument. It usually feels so good to play after a hiatus and I sometimes surprise myself with some new tricks I didn't even know I had. I think that is because I haven't been beating out all my favorite licks every day. Do any of you experience this?
