I just received a gift in the mail - a CD of Ed Saindon in concert @ the University of
New Hampshire, w/ Dave Liebman, Matt Wilson and David Clark. Beautiful concert, replete with
gorgeous originals("The Last Goodbye", "Hope", "The Healing") and re-imagings of standards
("Moon River", "Green Dolphin Street"). There's a solo/duet version of "Black Orpheus" which really shows how the grown-ups do it ... intense listening going on between Ed and
Liebman - and Ed's solo playing on this is phenomenal. Matt Wilson is so beautiful on this concert, orchestrating from the drums, and again, listening at such a high level.
One additional note: I've always loved Ed's vibes playing, but I've become quite a fan of his piano playing of late. His piano solo on "Moon River" here is compelling. He could quit playing vibes and make it as a pianist ... as a matter of fact, I wish he WOULD !
KIDDING !!!
I don't know if this recording will become commercially available, but until it does you can
get the studio recording, called "Depth of Emotion", which includes much of the same repertoire as this outstanding "live" performance.

Thanks Joe
Hi Joe,
I'm very glad that you dug the music from the concert. And thanks very much for the most gracious post about it.
The concert had a nice feel. Fortunately, it was recorded and videotaped.
I couldn't have asked for a better band. Everyone was listening, focused and so supportive of one another. Lieb is Lieb which goes without saying. But, Matt Wilson! I'm very picky with drummers since I feel that they can "make it or break it" so to speak. Matt brought such a positive spirit, energy and finesse to the music. I never felt that he was in the way or dominating. You always knew he would be there with the perfect level of support at any given moment in the music. He seemed to play everything right at the right time. It wasn't about chops; he was totally playing the music. Plus, what a great guy. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
Talk to you soon,
Ed
